Choosing Appliances Choosing Appliances

Recent changes in legislation have led to publication of new guidance in relation to energy efficiency for boilers.

You can have a look at the national guidance online.

Dean Fisk Plumbing and Heating will be delighted to speak with you about your choice of heating appliances.

Energy efficiency is not only good for the environment, it is good for your budget. With increasing fuel costs, saving on installation could cost you more in fuel in the long run.

Consult with us and let us help you make the right choice.

SEDBUK SEDBUK

SEDBUK was developed under the Government's Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme with the co-operation of boiler manufacturers, and provides a basis for fair comparison of the energy performance of different boilers.

SEDBUK is the average annual efficiency achieved in typical domestic conditions, making reasonable assumptions about pattern of usage, climate, control, and other influences. It is calculated from the results of standard laboratory tests together with other important factors such as boiler type, ignition arrangement, internal store size, fuel used, and knowledge of the UK climate and typical domestic usage patterns.

For estimating annual fuel costs SEDBUK is a better guide than laboratory test results alone. It can be applied to most gas and oil domestic boilers for which data is available from tests conducted to the relevant European standards.

Radiators matter Radiators matter

Warranty

A manufacturers warranty of at least 5 years should be obtained, however, check that the radiator is date stamped to provide clear date evidence. Some manufacturers rely on paper inserts which need to be retained and passed on by the installer.

BS EN 442

Radiators sold in the UK have to conform and have outputs verified to BSEN442 the European standard for radiators. All brochures and instructions that come with a radiator needs to display BSEN442 compliance, this is to show compliance with the European construction products directive.

A good look and efficient hearting

Manufacturere who use 33.5 mm presses give a crisper profile to modern radiators. Each waterway in the radiator should have connector fins welded onto the back. This ensures maximum efficiency, lower running costs (due to low water content) and a fast heat up time. Why not consider replacing your old radiators for modern, heat-efficient equivalents. Dean Fisk is pleased to advise.
